The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading Africa-based, African-led, international research institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and engaged in multidisciplinary, evidence-based policy research. Our researchers address important issues and challenges facing Africa in areas such as education, health, population, aging, urbanization and well-being. We engage with policy makers in the region to disseminate our research findings to influence policy decisions and improve the quality of life in Africa.
Scope of Assignment
APHRC seeks to engage a firm to provide graphic and web design services to support updates to a series of templates for creative collateral as well as our online platform to promote our 2017-2021 Strategic Plan, harmonize our external brand identity and provide a guiding framework for use of our brand in both the real and virtual space.

Deliverables
Graphic design
- Brand guidelines to ensure harmonized use of APHRC brand, logo and straplines on creative collateral both corporate and in conjunction with partners
- Corporate templates for print creative collateral shared in ai, pdf, jpeg or png formats in both high resolution and compressed versions for website uploading where applicable.
- Series of up to twelve (12) infographics for corporate and programmatic use that complement the 2017-2021 Strategic Plan, to include organizational structure and depiction of programmatic endeavors
- A series of clean, attractive and easy to use web applications with modern user interfaces to update existing APHRC website, including new landing page, programmatic pages and interactive graphics
- Back-end coding that improves functionality for browsing on mobile devices
Graphic design
- An expansive portfolio that demonstrates skills in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, Avid, Final Cut Pro and other graphic design software and print.
- Initiative and sound judgment and ability to understand and process client feedback to improve assignments.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and deliver quality deliverables while working with tight timelines.
- Creative, innovative thinker with excellent design skills.
- A full stack web developer (Front and backend) with at least three (3) years of experience in design & development of web applications and use of relational databases coupled with web frameworks such as Laravel, CI, Zend, Yii or any other modern web framework.
- Experience in design disciplines and processes such as client server solution architecture, MVC Models, OOP or High performance solutions preferably using PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, NodeJS and pre-processors like SASS and LESS.
- Experience and extensive use of Content Management Systems particularly Word Press, Joomla, Drupal or any other modern CMS.
- Experience using collaborative software tools such as SVN, GIT, CVS and Mercurial for version control purposes.
- Strong skills in designing interactive responsive user interfaces.
- Ability to analyze and critique requirements and make recommendations on possible solution designs.
- Ability to complete work independently, incorporate client feedback, and deliver on time.
